Nigerian-American Singer Gbeke, Set to Drop New Single ‘Gi Mi’ on Valentine’s Day
Nigerian-American R&B singer, Gbeke is set to drop her new song “Gi Mi” on February 14th. The passionate singer whose unique sound is making international waves decided to drop the captivating jam on valentines’ day, not just to celebrate love, but to tell love’s entire story.
“Gi Mi” by Gbeke captures the feeling that a lot of us know all too well- being friend-zoned; it also expresses the passion, frustration, and yearning that comes with unrequited love.
By combining Neo-Soul, Afro-Beat, and a plethora of alternative rhythms to capture her story, Gbeke uses her music as a platform for social change.
She unashamedly reflects on real-life struggles including heartbreak, anxiety, and sexual assault to share her story and educate the world. Gbeke does not sing just to entertain, she also sings to be heard; her motto is “Freedom through music.”
The song itself is not a love song, it is a song about love. The distinction is clear once you listen to the song, the freedom, the honesty, and the deep sultry voice all pool together to give you an unforgettable experience that only good music can.
The singer already dropped her EP titled R.A.P.E (Rest Assured Peace Exist) on the 4th of December, 2020. It reflects on the trauma and stigma of rape using diverse R&B cadences to encourage letting go, moving forward, and owning one’s story.
